What YOU Telecom had to say on my blog entry && my answer to the same!!

Good Morning Mr. Chakravarthy,

Yes, you got the crux of the matter, but I am 100% satisfied with the speeds
experienced by me on a line of same speed provided me by TATA Indicom
Broadband. AND I pay Rs. 300 less!!

I agree, speed experienced is a function of several parameters.

Before I explain my point of view to you let me tell you the configuration of
my second connection from Tata Indicom Broadband (VSNL). The line has a
maximum speed of 256 kilo bits pers second (kbps) with unlimited download.
Scroll down to the bottom -> Infinity - 256 256 Truly Unlimited 1,200)

My connection from YOU Telecom (Iqara) is of a similar nature, 256 kbps with
unlimited download.

Say, I am downloading a file from the microsoft website (I hope you agree to
the fact that microsoft servers are on high speed lines and DO NOT throttle
the download speeds). If I am able to get the file at 30 kilo Bytes per
second (kBps) on a line from VSNL.

Now if I connect to the MS website using YOU Telecom (Iqara) line and try to
download the same file, why do I get a download speed of 10 kBps? When I ask
this question to your technical guys, they ask me download three file
simultaneously and then check the aggregate speed!!

If I do put three simultaneous files for download then I get an aggregate
speed of 30 Kbps. With this kind of behavior of the network, it simply means
that YOU Telecom (Iqara) has some sort of "TAP" on the line. When I download
one file, only one TAP is opened, when I add downloads more TAP's are opened.

As a person with enough technical knowledge on networks, I know that this kind
of arrangement can be configured. This arrangement has be done on a server
controlled by the ISP. Many corporates use this method to manage traffic on
the internal networks.

I say this with confidence as I have tried downloading the same file
simultaneously on BSNL and VSNL lines. Both the lines of 256 kbps. And I got
30kbps on those lines!! And on a 512 kbps line from BSNL, the same package is
downloaded at 60 kBps!!

I dis-agree with this arrangement made by YOU Telecom (Iqara).

VSNL & BSNL, does not utilise this kind of TAP system!!

I am talking of pure download speed, when downloading a file from the network
and not browsing websites (reading pages over the web).

> The industry currently focuses on guaranteeing the "quality of the network

if the ISP guarantees the quality of network between the POP and customer
modem, why there are speed related issues, when only one machine is directly
connected to the modem?
Does the ISP not gaurantee network speed from the modem (Motorola surfboard,
provided by YOU Telecom (Iqara)), over a cat 5 cable (merely 3ft long) into
the consumer's network card (10/100 MBps) on a regular DELL Laptop?

Has to be, I have paid for it!!

Are you sure? VSNL does not mention that on their website and also I get a
complete 256 kbps speed when downloading a file from a regular webserver
which is connected to a terabyte line. This I do not get when download the
same file over YOU Telecom (Iqara)

Absolutely, but I am talking of downloading file from regular websites, like
sourceforge.net, microsoft.com, novell.com, opensuse.org, download.com and
similar others.

Sir, I have mentioned earlier in my mail, my monthly downloads touch close to
14GB, how in that can you even think of asking me to shift to a line, where
my monthly limit is as low as 4GB?? And secondly, if you think, I should be
paying for the extra 10GB, would it not I be thinking of getting some kind of
leased line?

Last but not the least, I request you to kindly send me the document from
TRAI, where they mention that quality (consistent download speeds) of
internet line, cannot be defined.

VSNL Speed

Hi
I am thinking of taking VSNL Broadband connection in Kochi. I am looking forward to inputs/comments from users of same as soon as possible.

thank you.

Speed...

My experience with almost all ISPs providing broadband with cable modem and/or ADSL modem, is their service is area specific in my city. In one area they provide what they promise and in other the connection is worse than that of dial up. Not just the speeds, but also the uptime and other QoS parameters. So it is always a good idea to talk to people in your locality who are having the connection. The sales person generally calls up the other customer and then you can visit that person if required ;).

You Telecom speed

I have an Airtel DSL and You Telecom Cat5 connection. You Telecom says there connection is upto 2Mbps. They could might as well say upto 20000000Mbps it shouldn't matter. Grammatically they are correct.
End result is, they cheat you. I have better response from Airtel DSL. You Tele just lost one customer.

Ajay

Good Job

Hi,

I personally realise how frustrating it is when the people working in these corporations refuse to take the ownership of their work. Everyone in this real world is a service provider to someone so it's not that the concept is too difficult to grasp. End result should be a happy customer and that just does not mean that he should be "pleased" at all costs. He should be given a fair and just treatment and it's a shame if these guys do not understand what fair and just means. Anyhow, blogs such as these are doing a good job by atleast threatening these corporations in some way at least and slowly and steadily they will loose business (it will be a power series effect). I will not take YOU for sure and I was seriously considering them otherwise :-).
Thanks for saving my time and energy.

Best Regards

Frustrated prospect of YOU Telecom

Hi,
Can somebody provide me email IDs of YOU Telecom Senior management.
I have paid money to a YOU telecom personnal for quite sometime now and my new connection is not yet in place.

Inspite of repetitive follow-up with those guys, I have not been given the connection yet.

Looking at the Threads in this forum, I am getting the impression that, I am not the only person affected by YOU Telecom's service. If they are treating me like this as a new customer, I can understand what the after sales service will be

Can somebody please forward me the email IDs of YOU teleocm, higher management. My email IS is lokhande.amol@indiatimes.com

Regards
Amol

YOU Tele is really a cheater

I, being a customer of YOU had heard a lot of criticism from others about YOU, as we can see on this page. But, I feel now it's time for me to criticize YOU Tele. All the things mentioned above about YOU are 100% true, no doubt. But, apart from these, the one thing which I have come to know about YOU lately is that if you download files beyond a certain limit on YOU, your connection gets disconnected and you are unable to download a file for the next few hours or maybe even more!! This happens all the time. This is really pathetic. If you wish to use internet for downloading files, YOU Tele should probably be your last choice!!

You Telecom are indeed cheaters

Hi people,

I am a you telecom user in Bangalore. I would like to say the same thing. You telecom promises one and gives another. I made a grave mistake by subscribing to You telecom.

People please don’t make the same mistake.

Rahul

You Telecom SUX!!

I called up Customer Service and they tell me that a 192 kbps connection serves 24k download speed... And this is horrid... As it stands what we call broadband in India is pretty narrowband in other countries... But for such speeds, I'd rather take on a good ol' BSNL dial up connection. I swear by the God of internet speeds that it was faster...!!!

YOU TELECOM SUCKS BIG TIME !!!

Hi All,
I Am yet another duped customer of You Telecom....
The Service worked pretty well for about a year.... then suddenly last month end the guys disconnected my line....
I guess they Fig that I was using P2P and doing a lot of downloads.... But Hey Hell I'm paying for the shit!! and the Lines supposed to be a 192kbps UNLIMITED line..... So what goes if I download a few GB a month.....
After doing a lot of research on the net I have concluded that these guys are doing what is called P2P Throttling which induces something called Deep packet Analysis and can play havoc with your P2P downloads and yet let you access all other web sites thru a brouser at normal speeds...
So what you will get are speeds of no mor than 1-2kbps on P2P and normal speeds thru a brouser.... Here's some links 4 U guys....

All I can say is DOWN with such ISP's .... Lets Collectively ban You Telecom!!!!
